Can you apply for life and disability insurance if you have recently had COVID-19 ?

The position of each life insurer differs if you have recently been infected with the COVID-19 virus and want to apply for new or additional life and/or disability cover. It also applies for a policy replacement.

Contact us and we can update you on the position of the various insurers and what this may mean for you.

For example, one insurer’s current position is as follows :

For customers who have (or recently suffered) a mild-moderate COVID infection and who have no co-morbid risks (such as being over age 60, a BMI of over 40, or has Diabetes, Cardiovascular or Respiratory disease) and who have made a full recovery from symptoms then their stance is :

  1. A deferment period across all covers of 4 weeks
  2. And no standard additional mandatory medical evidence is required for the infection alone.

For customers who have (or recently suffered) a moderate or severe COVID infection that required hospitalisation and/or have co-morbid risks, then individual consideration will be given and additional medical requirements will be required – to be determined on a case by case basis.
