Doctors – New To Private Practice – Medical Indemnity Insurance Premium Discounts

What is a Starting In Private Practice Discount ?

Most professional indemnity insurers for Doctors recognise that cash flow may be tight in the early years of starting work in in private practice.

They commonly offer discounted premiums to support Doctors during their first years in private practice.  This can be for say, the first 5 years, but the practice will differ from insurer to insurer.

The common approach is that the insurer will apply a percentage discount to your base premium over a period of the first few years.

The discount starts with a high percentage, eg 50% (or more) in your first year of private practice, and then the discount commonly reduces to and tapers to a lower percentage for the subsequent few years and then eventually the discount falls to zero.

There are other reasons why the insurers may offer such a discount and the practice will vary from insurer to insurer.

It can be confusing to navigate the various options and approaches of each insurer. To find out more, or to get support (without paying more than the insurer’s premium), contact us below.
